Argumentative Essay Introduction

Argumentative Essay IntroductionOne of the best things that you can do in order to get a high grade on an argumentative essay is to go out of your way to write a very strong introduction. Many students who find themselves unprepared for their college essays have the same problem. They approach the assignment with a rather dry and simplistic idea of what the essay should be about, and then go through and outline the points of argument before they actually start writing anything at all.As a student writing an argumentative essay, you want to start out with something a little more interesting. You want to write the introduction paragraph in a manner that leads the reader to your main point and begins a discussion of why it is your main point. Here are four ways that you can begin your argument.Write your introduction paragraph out loud. This gives you an opportunity to re-read your paragraph multiple times and write a couple different paragraphs that you can play with. Writing the intro duction paragraph this way will also help you visualize your paragraph as a whole, rather than just something that you're reading out loud. Doing this allows you to eliminate a lot of potential mistakes that would show up on the paper with an outline.Write each of your sentences out for each of your paragraphs. Having different sentences to build on can give your introduction paragraph a sense of order. Doing this also helps the reader to understand the context of your overall argument much better than they would be able to if they only read one paragraph.Be sure to acknowledge any points that you might have gone over and make any corrections to them in your paragraph or two of argument. If you mention a point in your first paragraph that you're going to be coming back to, say so. If you don't, then there is no point in your argument.Explain your paragraph detail. When doing this, try to address as many points as you can to make the paragraph seem coherent. Make sure to address ever y point, but avoid getting into a situation where you're discussing all of the same points that you've already made in your argument. Finally, do not try to tie your main point into any other points you might have made. In other words, do not write in such a way that it begins to tie together the paragraphs that you have written. Your argument will be easier to understand if you always write in such a way that it is a little more connected to what has been written already.Remember that the goal of writing an argumentative essay is to come up with an argument that is full of clarity and interest. If you write your introduction paragraph in a way that brings attention to your main point and begins a discussion of it, you will come away with a much better essay.
